Consumers Credit Union Hires John Murphy as Mortgage Manager

Kalamazoo, Mich. – Consumers Credit Union has hired John Murphy as its new Mortgage Manager. Murphy’s primary responsibilities are developing the credit union’s mortgage portfolio and finding new and innovative ways to serve the members. He will also manage underwriting and research program initiatives.

“It’s gratifying to implement creative and caring solutions to situations that can arise in a highly regulated mortgage industry,” says Murphy. “Our service is enhanced when we have the latitude to implement new ideas for members.”

Murphy previously served as VP of Real Estate Services, Centers for Disease Control Federal Credit Union, in Atlanta, Georgia. There he managed real estate initiatives, new program development, as well as secondary marketing and mortgage compliance. Murphy holds an MBA from Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa) and is a graduate of the University of Iowa.

In his personal life, he loves cycling, once taking a solo 40-day bike trip through the Northwestern U.S. He’s a fan of competitive shooting and tennis.

Consumers Credit Union Promotes Alex Bierlein to Assistant Office Manager

Kalamazoo, Mich. – Alex Bierlein has been promoted to Assistant Office Manager for Consumers Credit Union’s 9th Street Office (at West Main). He’s responsible for staff development, growing and nurturing business accounts, approving loans for members, and managing all aspects of member relations.

Bierlein’s work ethic drives him to find solutions for members while enhancing the credit union’s efficiency in its sales techniques. His background in retail management (for both D&W Food Centers and Walgreens) complements this goal and has taught him how to bring people together.

“I enjoy being that person people come to for financial advice…an advisor they can trust to have their best interests in mind,” adds Bierlein.

Bierlein attended Spring Arbor College where he studied Management and Organizational Development. He is a contributing writer for the credit union’s blog and has written many short stories. Bierlein is also a supporter of K-CAN, a charity for abused and neglected children in Kalamazoo County, and volunteers for Meals on Wheels.
