FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 8, 2012

Kalamazoo, Mich. – Consumers Credit Union presents an informative session on Personal Finance for College Students: Tuesday, June 19, 2012, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Consumers Credit Union, 7040 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo.

Preparing for the financial requirements of a college education can be an overwhelming task for both parents and students. With a bit of planning, families gain peace of mind when it comes to preparing and paying for necessary college expenses. The general public is invited to this free financial workshop at Consumers Credit Union. Students and their families will learn more about:

  • Setting goals for spending and saving when away from home
  • Creating a budget for use on and off campus
  • Calculating college funds needs
  • Identifying sources of college funding
  • Choosing a funding option
  • The importance of building and maintaining a good credit history for the college student

Consumers Credit Union welcomes special guest speaker, Brett Mobey, of Accel – Members Financial Counseling. Mobey is a Certified Credit Counselor who offers an array of experience in providing financial education to credit union members and their families.

“I am amazed at the difference pre-planning can make,” says Mobey. “At Accel, we work with students and their families to help determine an appropriate spending budget and ways to save money while attending college.”

The programs of Accel are offered free to all members, and this workshop is part of Consumers Credit Union’s continuing effort to provide enhanced financial education. “It’s these types of programs that can make a difference in the lives of members,” adds Mobey.
