Consumers Sunburst Run Is August 11, 2012

Register Now for the 3rd Annual Consumers Sunburst 5k Run
Kalamazoo, Mich. – On Saturday, August 11, 2012, Consumers Credit Union is teaming up with Oshtemo Friends of the Parks to hold the third annual Consumers Sunburst 5k along with a one-mile Family Fun Run. Proceeds will go towards community events and activities in Oshtemo, such as future improvements to Oshtemo area parks and family nights. Interested participants are encouraged to register now at www.consumerssunburst.org/.
The course will go through the beautiful Oshtemo countryside and includes a mixture of paths over road, trail, tunnel, and bridge. Participants will enjoy live music from local musicians along with complimentary fruit, snacks, and beverages.
Jennifer Knapp, Education and Events Coordinator for Consumers (and Sunburst volunteer and runner), says “The Sunburst is a great way to interact with your community and raise money for a good cause. Also, the course is excellent. I can’t wait to run it again this year.”
The Sunburst Run starts at 8:30am and is 5 kilometers long (3.1 miles). The course will start and end at ‘The Rock’ – 2901 N. 10th Street. Runners of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. Cost for participants is $25 for adults age 19 and over, $20 for teens age 13 to 18, and $15 for children under 12. (Entries after August 3rd will incur an additional $5.)
At 9:30am (following the 5k run) there will be a one-mile Family Fun Run and is free to all runners. The cost for non-runners is $15 for adults age 19 and over, $10 for teens age 13 to 18, and $5 for children under 12. Parents can run with their children and strollers are welcome.
As partner sponsor, Consumers annually contributes funds and resources to the Sunburst 5k, along with many staff volunteer hours. In 2011, the event raised $7,356 of which part of the funds were used to match park grant dollars from the Michigan Natural Resource Trust Fund.
